What is the battery life for the Oculus Quest 2 headset?
The Oculus Quest 2 has a two and a half hour battery life when it’s fully charged. This differs depending on what you’re doing – watching a movie, browsing the web, playing games and it also depends on which games you’re playing and what setting you’re playing on. If you’re playing on 120 Hz refresh rate, it’ll drain battery much quicker and I recommend getting a battery pack for that.
When I’m playing a game like Beat Saber, I can use it for two hours straight.
How long does it take to charge the Oculus Quest 2?
It takes a bit over an hour to charge from 0 to 100%. Oculus will provide you with a 2.5m long USB-C cable for charging.
Can you use the Oculus Quest 2 whilst charging?
Yes you can! The only downside to charging the Oculus Quest while using it is that you’ll be limited in movement, but the good news is that the cable is quite long (2.5m) so you’ll still have a lot of free space.
Is there any way to extend the Oculus Quest 2 battery life?
Yes there is! One of the best options is to get a battery pack that goes on the back of the headset.
One of the downsides of the Oculus Quest 2 is that it is abit front-heavy. The battery pack which goes on the back of the headset is to counterbalance this front-heavy weight and make the headset more comfortable – whilst increasing the battery life.
Other ways to improve battery life are:
- Turn off the WiFi when you’re not using it by going to Settings > Wi-Fi
- Lowering down the volume
- Turn off auto wake-up by going to Settings > Power > Auto Wake-Up
What batteries do you need for the Oculus Quest headset and controllers?
The headset has an in-built battery that charges using a USB-C cable like a cellphone. Read about the battery specs here.
The controllers each use a single AA battery. These need to be replaced so it’s best you buy some rechargeable batteries.
The best batteries are the Panasonic Eneloop rechargeable batteries which I recommend you get with the Eneloop charger.

What is the battery life on the Oculus Quest controllers?
VERY long. Actually too long to measure.
I can go on for over 3 months without having to replace the batteries and I play on it almost every day for 30 minutes – an hour…
Can you remove or replace the batteries in the Oculus Quest headset?
No you cannot.
Contact Oculus support by submitting a ticket if you wish to replace the batteries.
Do not try to replace them yourself as built-in batteries require specialized knowledge and you’ll void your warranty or damage your headset by trying to do so.
